  • Direct Sourcing: Sydney’s plant is primarily powered by the Capital Wind Farm, which produces three times the power the plant actually needs.

  • Renewable Energy Certificates (RECs): To maintain a 24/7 supply, plants often draw from the general grid and "offset" 100% of their usage by purchasing and retiring Renewable Energy Certificates.

  • Challenges: The main hurdle for reaching 90%+ purely from on-site renewables is intermittency (the sun setting or wind stopping).
